1 · What you need
Windows: Windows 10 version 2004 or later, or Windows 11, with virtualization switched on (it is on most PCs). Dropeen sets up its own engine in Windows' built-in Linux support when you click Set up: one administrator prompt, and sometimes a restart.
Mac: macOS 11 or later, and Docker Desktop (free for personal use): install it, open it once and accept its terms.
Linux: Docker Engine or Docker Desktop.
The first start downloads about 1.3 GB, which takes about 5 GB of disk space once unpacked.
2 · Open Dropeen
Dropeen isn't code-signed yet, so your computer warns you the first time. That's expected.
- Double-click
dropeen-windows-amd64.exe. - If you see "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.
- If your browser blocks the download, choose Keep (in Edge: … → Keep → Keep anyway).
- Open the download,
dropeen-macos.dmg. A window opens. - Drag Dropeen onto the Applications folder in that window.
- Open Dropeen from Applications. macOS says it can't verify Dropeen: click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to "Dropeen was blocked", and click Open Anyway. Then open Dropeen again and choose Open Anyway.
You only do this once. Dropeen has no window or Dock icon: it works in your browser. To see its page again, open Dropeen from Applications.
chmod +x dropeen-linux-*
./dropeen-linux-amd64 # or ./dropeen-linux-arm64
Dropeen opens a setup page in your browser. Follow it to start your desktop.
3 · Pair it with your account
- On the setup page, click Pair with your account. It shows a code.
- Click Approve it (or open the link on your phone), sign in with your email and approve the code. There's no password: we email you a sign-in link.
